SO makes Hedgehog

This the first official post on DMH. I did tell DMH I was writing it, but took photos without him in it.

DMH made the first homemade Hedgehog I’d ever eaten. I often forget I love eating it, then I see someone else eating it and I want it. I only let DMH make it for me, it’s not the same if I make it for myself.

DMH made a regular batch, but it didn’t fill the tray the whole way and we ate it all and then blamed each other for eating the last piece. It had tasty ganache type icing that was tasty. So we lined up, and decided to make a triple batch – a bit thicker and filling the whole tray.

Biscuit squashing – I recommend a ziplock bag you are willing to sacrifice, or a cereal bag, as they are super sturdy. Instead of using a rolling pin, you can use the base of a mug instead.

Chop your chocolate loosely into the same size as the biscuit crumbs. Then your eaters will get a nice hint of chocolate as they eat.

Stir and mix – you should want to drink it!

The first time we made it, DMH added the more expensive chocolate to the Hedgehog itself and it made it an extra bit more tasty. Unfortunately when I went shopping for replacement ingredients, I thought that lots of chocolate had gone in, so I bought the cheaper stuff. This batch doesn’t taste quite as good in my opinion because I like dark chocolate the best. Now I’ve got a bunch of crappy cooking chocolate to deal with too. Maybe icecream?

The Recipe
1 packet Marie biscuits ($2)
1/2 cup caster sugar (~$0.50)
2 tbs cocoa (more, depending how much you like cocoa) (~$0.10)
1 beaten egg ($0.30)
125g salted butter (~$0.70)
100g chocolate chopped to be tossed in. (optional)

Melt butter, add all ingredients with Marie biscuits last. Press into tray and put in the fridge to cool.

If you desire icing put 1/3 cup cream and 250g chocolate in a double boiler and melt. Allow to cool slightly and then pour on top of base.

It helps if you have a super cute KK to mix, taste and crush biscuits.
